NFL media analyst Daniel Jeremiah, widely-regarded as one of the best draft gurus around has the Denver Broncos selecting Washington State offensive tackle Andre Dillard in his latest mock draft. Here is the interesting thing about this — both Devin White and Drew Lock were available. For most of the draft process, Dillard has flown under the radar despite starting 41 consecutive games for the Cougars at left tackle. His quality play on the field earned him All-Pac 12 and third-team All-American honors this past season as a senior. After his performance at the combine he isn’t flying under the radar anymore. Without question, Dillard had the most impressive workout offensive lineman in attendance. He was a standout performer in the 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle, three-cone drill and broad jump and left Indianapolis boosting his draft stock significantly — likely cementing Top 15 status with teams across the National Football League. Dillard’s plus athleticism, footwork, movement skills, and ability to anchor down at either tackle position make him an enticing selection for the Broncos. While offensive tackle isn’t the most popular selection for many fans with respect to the Broncos’ and potential draft intentions in the first round — it makes a whole lot of sense. They are currently in need of a starter at right tackle and would benefit greatly from an insurance policy in case Garett Bolles fails to improve in his third season. Not only that, but Dillard has the potential to become one of the league’s best tackles under the tutelage of new offensive line coach Mike Munchak. What’s not to like about that? The end of April seems like an eternity from now and it’s impossible to pinpoint what direction the Broncos will go in the draft. However, if other major needs are addressed in Free Agency, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them select the best offensive lineman in this year’s draft with their tenth overall selection if Dillard is available. Some people might hate it (especially when you factor in passing on White and Lock), but I have a feeling many fans would be cheering “Dilly dilly!” once they see how good he is on the gridiron. As always, thank you for reading and here is today’s offering of Horse Tracks.Horse TracksDenver Broncos: Post-Combine 7-round 2019 mock draftWhich way will the Denver Broncos look for talent in the 2019 NFL Draft now that the combine has been completed? Linebacker Von Miller said in mid-May that cornerback Chris Harris is the kind of player “you want to take care of” and that’s just what the Broncos did last week.Harris did his first offseason work of the year after agreeing to a revised deal for the 2019 season. Harris got a bump in pay and Miller gave his approval for how things played out.“I’ve been playing with the guy for nine years, and you want to see the guy get his due. You want to see guys get done right by,” Miller said, via the team’s website. “And they definitely did right by Chris in paying him. … Everything worked out the way it’s supposed to. Nobody got traded, nobody held out. For the most part, everybody’s been able to shake hands, hug and get back to doing what we do.”Miller and Harris both joined the Broncos in 2011 and they’ve shared in a lot of success on the team’s defense. That run could end after this year, but last week’s developments ensure they’ll be partners for a ninth year in Denver.
